NC Pre-K
Perquimans County Schools has two NC Pre-K classrooms, each with a maximum of twenty students. Our program provides high-quality educational experiences for 4-year-old children to enhance kindergarten readiness. The program supports the five developmental domains that are critical to children’s overall well-being and success in reading and math as they enter school:
- Approaches to play and learning
- Emotional and social development
- Health and Physical Development
- Language development and communication
- Cognitive development
Program Eligibility
NC Pre-K is a program designed to serve at-risk student populations. To be eligible for NC Pre-K, the child must be 4 years old by August 31 of the current program year, AND meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
- Family income is at or below 75% of the State Median Income level
- Your family is experiencing homelessness
- Your child is in foster care
- Your family receives refugee services
- Your family receives public assistance (WIC, Work First, Medicaid, SSI, SNAP, public housing)
- Your family can claim military status (active duty or injured while serving)
- Your child demonstrates an identified developmental or educational need
- Your child has a chronic health condition documented by a medical professional
- Your child is an English language learner
Although a child may meet one or more eligibility factors, placement is not guaranteed.
