NC Pre-K

Perquimans County Schools has two NC Pre-K classrooms, each with a maximum of twenty students. Our program provides high-quality educational experiences for 4-year-old children to enhance kindergarten readiness. The program supports the five developmental domains that are critical to children’s overall well-being and success in reading and math as they enter school:

Approaches to play and learning
Emotional and social development
Health and Physical Development
Language development and communication
Cognitive development

Program Eligibility

NC Pre-K is a program designed to serve at-risk student populations. To be eligible for NC Pre-K, the child must be 4 years old by August 31 of the current program year, AND meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

Family income is at or below 75% of the State Median Income level
Your family is experiencing homelessness
Your child is in foster care
Your family receives refugee services
Your family receives public assistance (WIC, Work First, Medicaid, SSI, SNAP, public housing)
Your family can claim military status (active duty or injured while serving)
Your child demonstrates an identified developmental or educational need
Your child has a chronic health condition documented by a medical professional
Your child is an English language learner

Although a child may meet one or more eligibility factors, placement is not guaranteed.
