Weather Update and Proactive Planning for Possible Remote Learning

PQ families,
Weather forecasts are currently predicting the possibility of another winter storm this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Because temperatures are expected to remain very cold into next week, there is a chance that any snow or ice could make travel unsafe on Monday as well as additional days next week.
Out of an abundance of caution, our school system is taking two proactive measures.
First, our School Nutrition team is working to ensure students continue to have access to healthy meals.
We plan to provide 3 breakfasts and 3 lunches for students who will need meals during remote learning. To help us prepare the correct number of meals, we ask that families complete the meal request form found on the school website.
Please complete the form no later than 3:00 PM today.
If your student does not need meals, you do not need to complete the form. We are only requesting forms for students who will need meals provided.
Secondly, students will be coming home this Friday with remote learning information so families are prepared if inclement weather impacts school operations. At this time, we are preparing for up to three days of possible remote instruction.
Please note that no official decision has been made regarding school operations. We will not make that determination until we have clearer and more accurate information about actual weather and road conditions.
As always, the district will make an all-call to inform families of any decisions. In addition, schools will continue their regular weekly Sunday all-calls with follow-up information, and updates will also be shared through school and district social media.
Thank you for your patience and partnership as we plan ahead to keep our students and staff safe. We appreciate your continued support of Perquimans County Schools.
